Tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine is a water-soluble phosphine reducing agent widely used in biochemistry to cleave disulfide bonds in proteins while remaining stable in aqueous and oxygen-rich environments. Due to its advantages such as being odorless, having strong reducing ability, and good stability, it is often used as an ideal substitute for DTT (dithiothreitol) and beta-mercaptoethanol.
