(3S,5S)-Atorvastatin is the inactive enantiomer of atorvastatin that has no inhibitory activity against HMG-CoA reductase but can activate the pregnane X receptor (PXR). Atorvastatin is an orally active HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor with the ability to effectively lower blood lipid levels.
