Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) is a zinc-dependent protease involved in the degradation and remodeling of extracellular matrix components within the cardiovascular system. In cardiology, MMP-2 plays a critical role in the development and progression of atherosclerosis, plaque instability, myocardial infarction, and adverse cardiac remodeling leading to heart failure.
